Google's budget-friendly Pixel A-series may be getting back on track. According to a leak from Mystic Leaks, the upcoming Pixel 11a is expected to feature a flagship-grade Tensor G6 processor, reversing a controversial decision made with the current-generation Pixel 10a.
The Pixel 10a's Processor Problem
When Google launched the Pixel 10a, many consumers were caught off guard by the company's choice of silicon. Instead of equipping the device with the Tensor G5 found in the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro, Google opted for the older Tensor G4. This represented a significant departure from the established pattern for the Pixel A-series, which traditionally carried the same modern processor as its flagship siblings while trimming costs in other areas.
The decision to use a previous-generation chip was widely regarded as a disappointment among followers of the lineup. For years, the A-series had offered a compelling value proposition: near-flagship performance at a lower price point, with compromises made elsewhere in the hardware. The Pixel 10a broke that formula, leaving buyers with a device powered by dated internals.
Tensor G6: What the Rumors Say
If the Mystic Leaks report proves accurate, the Pixel 11a will mark a course correction. The Tensor G6 is said to be a flagship-grade processor, bringing the A-series back in line with its original philosophy of offering contemporary performance at a reduced cost.
On the graphics side, the Tensor G6 is rumored to feature the same PowerVR DXT-48-1536 GPU as the Tensor G5. Even so, this would represent a meaningful upgrade over the Mali-G715 GPU found in the Tensor G4 that powers the Pixel 10a. Users could therefore expect improved graphics performance compared to the current budget model.
