Apple has long been rumored to be developing a dedicated smart home hub, a device frequently described as a "HomePod with a screen." Now, a detailed report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman offers the clearest picture yet of what the product could look like — and when it might finally reach consumers.
A New Hub Built Around AI Siri
According to Gurman, the device — reportedly referred to as the "HomePad" — will feature a 7-inch square display. It is expected to run on a brand-new operating system built atop Apple's tvOS software. The interface is said to include grids of icons, widgets, and apps, drawing visual comparisons to iOS and watchOS.
The revamped, AI-powered Siri will reportedly sit at the center of the experience. The hub is also expected to support video chat, security features, and intercom functionality that integrates with other Apple Home devices. Notably, Gurman reports that the device will be able to automatically personalize its interface — including text and icon size — based on who is looking at the screen.
A Broader Push Into the Smart Home
The HomePad represents a significant step for Apple, which has historically relied on third-party accessories to maintain a presence in the smart home market. With the enhanced Siri reportedly set to arrive in September, Apple appears to be positioning itself to compete more directly with offerings like the Google Nest Hub Mini and Amazon's Echo Show lineup.
Apple had initially planned to unveil the smart home display in spring 2025. However, when the company delayed its AI-upgraded Siri, it shifted the launch timeline to align with the release of iOS 27 and the new Siri platform.
