Orbital Studios Brings LED Virtual Production to Historic Television City Lot

Orbital Studios, a company specializing in virtual production, has relocated its LED walls to Television City, the former CBS studio on Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. The move shifts the firm's headquarters from the city's Arts District to a lot rich in television history.

Television City was once home to landmark programs including "The Carol Burnett Show" and "The Price Is Right." With Orbital Studios' arrival, the storied lot now gains new capabilities for large-scale LED volume shooting.

What Virtual Production Adds to the Lot

Virtual production relies on technology such as CGI, LED screens and augmented reality to create effects and backdrops directly on a physical set. The approach allows filmmakers to build immersive environments in real time rather than relying solely on location shoots or post-production.

The relocation brings both Orbital Studios' LED volume and its research and development lab to Television City, expanding the range of productions the site can support.

A Track Record on Major Projects

Orbital Studios has already applied its tools to high-profile work. For Netflix's "Nemesis," the company rebuilt portions of downtown Los Angeles using digital scans, recreating the cityscape for the screen.

The firm is currently in production on "The Drop: A Snowfall Saga" for FX. Its previous credits include "Justified: City Primeval," "History's Greatest Heists" and "World War II with Tom Hanks."

Horror Satire 'Namaslay' Sets Release Date

In other film news, the genre-bending horror yoga satire "Namaslay" from Junghal Studios is set to open in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Aug. 6, before expanding nationwide on Aug. 13.

Written and directed by Rish and Kanish, the film follows a woman who arrives in Los Angeles and is invited to join a yoga instructor program at an upscale studio. When she is invited to the instructor's retreat, she "discovers the ulterior nature of her invitation," according to the synopsis. Producers describe the story as one that "turns the wellness industry upside down in a blood-soaked cultural reckoning."

Produced by Venk Potula alongside Rish and Kanish, the film stars Kirunthuja Srikanth-Talim, Angela Sant'Albano, Alicia Mitchell-Mangual, Usha Krishnan and Christina Moore.
