"Masters of the Universe," the live-action reboot of the classic Mattel franchise, will be available to stream on Prime Video starting July 22. The film struggled at the summer box office, grossing just $113 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of approximately $200 million.
From Theaters to Streaming
The movie arrived in theaters on June 5, debuting at No. 2 in North America with $29.3 million for its opening weekend, trailing behind "Scary Movie." Despite its recognizable brand and sizable production investment, the title was unable to gain enough traction to recoup its costs during its theatrical run. The transition to Prime Video offers the film a fresh opportunity to reach audiences who missed it on the big screen.
Cast and Creative Team
Nicholas Galitzine stars as Adam Glenn, also known as He-Man, who is tasked with protecting his home planet of Eternia from the villainous Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. The supporting cast includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley, Morena Baccarin, Artie Wilkinson-Hunt, and Eire Farrell.
Travis Knight directed the feature, with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, and DeVon Franklin producing. Chris Butler wrote the screenplay, joining the project after initial drafts had been completed by David Callaham and the sibling team of Aaron and Adam Nee.
